ultraKUB OÜ, a company based on Estonian capital, has developed an innovative energy-saving module house solution by the name of Elumaja that breaks current understanding in construction and in life organization in general. The innovative concept is based on the standard of passive house for creating a house that is energy efficient, mobile, comfortable and healthy and whose ecological footprint is very small.

Rene Valner, architect and author of the Elumaja concept, said that the module house is designed with keeping a zero energy house in sight, the production of which is standardised. “Zero energy house means that it does not use more energy during its use than the building itself generates. If the customer does not wish to acquire autonomous energy equipment for achieving a zero-energy house, he or she can obtain a passive house that requires in average ten times lower heating costs than a standard house,” he explained.

Rene Valner says that the concept of Elumaja shows the society in crisis the best possible readiness for global changes and the possibility of sustainable solutions.  “At the time when energy availability and energy price becomes more and more important, changes in the environmental situation, changes in residential location and lifestyle, the business sector and the whole society is looking for new development trends. The highly efficient module house is our contribution for implementing new practical solutions,” said Valner. He added that this is a house of innovative new era that responds to the question – quo vadis?

ultraKUB OÜ is the first on the Estonian construction market to offer an innovative complex solution for manufacturing a highly efficient module house. The concept is based on the passive house standard for which the annual energy consumption of the building does not exceed 15 kWh/m²

The created module house enables to use autonomous solutions for renewable energy and, if necessary, to live independently from central infrastructure, i.e. neutrally from CO2 emission. In this case the building complies with the criteria to the zero energy house.

Elumaja consists of a basic module with the floor area of 45 m² that has healthy indoor climate and is energy efficient and modules that can be added to it. The concept was developed on the principle that it is suitable for our climatic conditions, corresponds to the highest quality requirements and would be affordable to the customers with different purchasing power.

To complete the Elumaja concept and to achieve the highest energy saving and independence, the customer can choose between a range of packages such as Solar, Power, Water and Smart. Independence from existing communications, mobility of the module and small required land area under the building enable to erect it without having to apply for a building title. All that you need is a written consent of the local government authority.

The module house based on passive house standard was developed on the consideration that it can be further developed into creating a plus energy house. This type of house generates surplus energy that the building’s owner can sell back to the energy supplier. For household consumers, this is not yet possible in Estonia.

There are plans to start marketing module houses manufactured by the Elumaja concept also in Scandinavian and other nearby markets. The first sample house will be completed at the end of May. It is believed that the Elumaja concept is the first such a unique integrated solution of a module house in Scandinavia and Europe.

Hi, Which materials you use in these houses? Where they come from? If I have pictures (home made) to the house does it make more price or is it possible you to build it based on that? Dis I understood right that all the packages prices are added to the house's price? BR Anita Hallikas
